There are many uses for winches in industrial applications as well as the fishing and marine industries. One such example is the timber treatment industry, where electric capstans are used to haul timber-laden bogeys into and out of tannalising bays. These capstans are often different in design tot the port-side mooring ones, being lower to the ground, but the principle is the same.
