North Sea Winches was formerly Engineering Services, a small company
operating out of premises in the centre of Scarborough. The name was changed and formed into a limited company in 1971 when it became apparent that there was a viable market in the UK fishing industry. Using the expertise gained locally we were able to expand nationwide, modifying and developing the designs to suit regional fishing practices.

The marine supply side also began to expand as North Sea Winches' reputation spread and customers realised that a quality product could easily be adapted for use on workboats and other marine vessels. The fact that we design and build in-house as much as possible means that what appears to be a bespoke winch for an application is merely a variation on theme thereby reducing lead times and ensuring spares back-up well into the future. By 1986 the company had outgrown its original premises and moved to a purpose-built factory about 5 miles south of Scaborough town centre where we still operate today. See Contacts page for detailed directions and other contact details.

While we are still very active in the fishing industry, our marine and associated markets has expanded to the point where it accounts for about half of our output. Notable overseas projects include a bridge-lifting system for Iraq, 12 parallel drum mooring winches with diesel-hydraulic power-packs for a port project in Malta, a waterfall type trawl winch and net drums package for a fisheries project in China and slipway winches to Tonga and Sri Lanka.
